*Packet Operation

*Initiating a Connect
There are two method available with XPCOM to start
a packet connection. The first is more traditional
in nature.
Steps
a. Press the ALT C key sequence.
b. Enter the call sign of the Station that you
wish to connect to.
c. Press the enter key
d. At this point the TNC will start the
Connect Request
e. If you wish to disconnect the link press the
ALT D.
The second method is to use the Mheard list
to find out which stations have been "heard" by
the TNC.
Steps
a. Press the F6 function key. At this point a
window will displayed with the last 18
stations that were decoded.
b. You may connect to one of these stations by
using cursor keys to select the desired
station and pressing the return. If you are
using a mouse place the mouse cursor on the
desired station and press the left mouse
button. A connect attempt will be made.
c. If you do not wish to connect with one of the
station simply press the 'ESC' key or press
the mouse button off of the Mheard window.
*XP Windows (AEA Host Only)

*Capturing Files
After the connect has been established a window
will appear on the screen. In the upper left
corner will be the CALL SIGN of the station
connected to as well a File Status. The file
status is used to tell the user whether or not he
has a capture file opened on that channel. The
user may use the ALT R keystroke sequence to
begin/end a capture file.
To initiate another connect use the ALT C command
of use the Mheard list. The program will look for
the next available channel and start the connect
process. A message will be displayed at the
bottom of the screen that a "Connect Attempt" is
in process.
*Moving and Sizing XP Windows
The windows used in XPCOM for AEA Host mode may be
moved and sized freely by the user.
Using a mouse
To Move a window with a mouse :
a. Place the mouse on the BORDER of the window.
b. Press and hold the LEFT button on the MOUSE.
c. Move window to desired location.
To Size a window using the Mouse:
a. Place the cursor in the LOWER RIGHT corner
of the window.
b. PRESS and HOLD the Left Mouse button.
c. Size window as desired and release the Mouse Button.
To Toggle (ALT F3) the window size :
a. Place the mouse cursor on the UPPER RIGHT
hand corner of the window and press the
Left mouse button.
Using the Keyboard
To move a window using the keyboard.
a. Press the F4.
b. Use the UP, DOWN, LIGHT and RIGHT arrow keys
to move the window on the screen. The Page
up, Page down, Home and End keys may also be
used. These keys allow for a larger movement
( 5 rows / columns per keystroke ).
c. Press the 'ESC' key when done.
To size a window using the keyboard.
a. Press the F4.
b. Hold the Shift key down. Some laptops
require pressing the NUM lock key to enter a
shifted keyboard mode.
c. Use the UP, DOWN, LIGHT and RIGHT arrow keys
to size the window on the screen. The Page
Up, Page Down, Home and End Keys may be used
to make a larger change in the size ( 5 lines)
d. Press the 'ESC' key when done. This will
return you to normal operating mode.
*Toggling Window Size
Press the ALT F3 Sequence.
This will toggle the window size between the
last two size changes.
*Tiling Windows (ALT F1)
It is possible to display all available windows on the
screen simultaneously. To tile the windows press ALT
F1 or use the menu option Tile Windows in the
Setup menu. This will redraw all windows on the
screen, with each window having the same phyical size.
The user may use the Toggle Window command to maximize
the current receive channels window.
*Cascading Windows (ALT F1)
Cascading windows allows the user to stack windows on
the screen, giving a partial view of all background
activity. This option places the current "ACTIVE WINDOW"
at the top of the stack. To change the top window, either
click the mouse on the top border of the window or use the
or PAGE DOWN keys.
*Packet Menu

*HF, *VHF Modes
Currently the software is implemented for 300 and 1200 baud
operation for the PK232, and 300, 1200 and 2400 Baud
operation for the MFJ 1278.
To initiate a connect press the ALT-C key. This will pull up
a connect to dialog box. This box allows up to 20
characters. This is done to allow for routing etc. To start
the connect press the return key.
If you wish to issue a disconnect press the ALT-D key
sequence.
*Mheard List ( F6 )
This will pull up the Mheard buffer from the TNC. If you
wish to 'connect' to a particular station, highlight the
selection and press the mouse button or return key.
In the AEA Host mode the first available open stream will be
choosen for the connect. This allows the user to use the
Mheard function to initiate Multi-Connects.
*Mheard Clear ( ALT F6 )
This will clear the Mheard buffer in the TNC. This may also
be accomplished by pressing the ALT-F6 key.
*Monitor View ( ALT M )
This option allow the user to Monitor the channel activity
during connects to other stations. The channel traffic will
be displayed in the back (receive window). To toggle
between monitor on / off press the ALT M keystroke sequence.
